What will the course do for you?

It was mind-boggling at times, but the feeling of accomplishment and confidence after passing the final is incredible.  I have the confidence now to make decisions using sound principles and not question my own judgment.

Taking the Grain Merchant Certification course increases your knowledge of all aspects of basis trading.  You learn the proper procedures for executing basis transactions, develop sound decision-making abilities and learn to accurately assess and identify basis opportunities.

As you improve your knowledge and skills in basis trading, you gain CONFIDENCE in your merchandising abilities.  You become more aware of the basis and what grain is worth in your region and can make decisions based on your knowledge of local grain values and not have to rely on other's opinions.

Being a Certified Merchant is an acknowledgement to others in the industry that you are a trained and knowledgeable grain merchant.  Many of our course graduates use the title of Certified Merchant as recognition of their skills and accomplishments.

My hope is that it one day becomes a pre-requisite in our industry before the merchandiser title can be given.  I feel that the course very accurately depicts a day-to-day process for a merchandiser and his/her employees and staff.

Some companies use the Grain Merchant Certification course as a requirement for employment and/or promotion.  It assures that the employee has met certain standards and has specific knowledge and expertise in the application of basis trading.

The certification is extremely valuable.  I would hire someone with the certification over someone with industry experience.  I would definitely recommend and will require the certification as part of employment evaluations.
